enantiodromía
an mfa thesis show
The exhibition enantiodromía materializes the abstract of internal spaces of the mind as it’s shown through personal symbols in dreams.
Dreams are disorienting in a similar way that the dark is disorienting, you can’t quite trust your senses or your body to navigate the space the way it usually does so you become hyperaware of every step taken, how far way your libs are extended away from your body in case there’s something nearby you don’t know about. The only other time this type of awareness and lack of trust in the placement of your body regarding a place/space is when you’re surrounded by something that can hurt you or you can hurt it. Surrounded by thorns or by fragile glass. Theres a tension when all these elements are combined, glass, vines with thorns and a dark space, but then there’s a warm light that invites you to get closer. But how close is too close. Either way it’s better to move on and navigate the rest of the space than to remain still.
Repeated imagery but opposite, a start or an ending, a still crow lays on the ground surrounded my briers that hold up its past selves, crow lifts its wing, picks up a branch and starts again. Each fall reminds it of its previous failures, but the crow really things that they will be in control this time and that this time the thorns will help and not take over.
